GMAIL ACCOUNT

The Gmail app on Android is always more complete and offers several different options. Some are obvious, others a little less and here we offer you to (re) discover them. In other words, here are some tips on how to use Gmail on Android.
Mail

Gmail is a behemoth among the most popular email clients on Android, if only because it is installed by default on all versions of the operating system certified by Google. Its use is very simple, but there are a few tips to gain productivity or better manage your precious emails in general.

ACTIVATE SYNCHRONIZATION ON YOUR GMAIL ACCOUNT
Mail synchronization may not be effective when you link your Google Account to your phone. To fix this, go to your phone's settings, and open the Accounts tab. Once on this menu, select your Google account from the list displayed. Then, all you have to do is press Account Synchronization and check that the Synchronize Gmail option is activated.

The other solution is to go to your mailbox settings, scroll down to the Synchronize Gmail line and check the corresponding box. If on the contrary you wish to deactivate said synchronization, it is obviously also through this menu that you have to go.

Vous pouvez aussi choisir le délai de synchronisation de vos mails, pour choisir le nombre de jours. Pour cela, un petit tour dans les paramètres de Gmail, puis « nombre de jours à synchroniser« .

CONNECTEZ PLUSIEURS COMPTES GMAIL SUR VOTRE TÉLÉPHONE

Pour avoir accès à plusieurs comptes Gmail sur l’application — vos adresses personnelle et professionnelle par exemple — , il suffit tout simplement de lier plusieurs comptes Google sur votre smartphone et d’y activer la synchronisation. Notez que vous pouvez ajouter un compte directement depuis l’application Gmail.

Une fois que l’ajout a été réalisé, une petite bulle apparaît en haut à gauche dans le menu contextuel vous permettant de switcher entre les différents comptes.

Personally, I preferred to maintain synchronization on my personal mailbox, but I manually update my business address. Finally, you can also access all mailboxes, thanks to the "All inboxes" option, which is handy for having a global view of your mailbox.

ARCHIVE YOUR EMAILS WITH A FINGER SLIDE

To quickly archive your emails in the Gmail application, simply slide your finger to the right or left of the screen to send the message to the archive box. Google offers the option to cancel archiving in case of an error.

You can also select several messages at once, by making a long press and choosing the different messages to be processed. It is possible to modify the action of this gesture in the application settings.

IMPROVE EMAIL SEARCH

To make it easier to search, Google allows you to integrate filters when searching for an email on Gmail. For example, to find all of the messages sent by a specific person, a simple "from: name of person" will allow you to display all of their messages. There are a multitude of filters, available at the following address.

SET UP A PERSONALIZED NOTIFICATION BY LABEL

There is also a very practical option which allows you to assign a personalized notification to each of its labels (social networks, professional, forums, notifications, etc.). To do this, go to your account settings and click on Manage labels. There, you have a global view of all of your labels, allowing you to modify the notifications for each of them.

Note that creating or deleting labels is not possible on the Gmail Android app.

DELETE PROFILE PHOTOS

Thanks to Google + profiles, it is possible to add a photo as a profile image, a very practical feature which helps to strengthen human contact a little. Only this can quickly become a mess. In addition, for contacts without an avatar, color bubbles are added automatically with the initial letter of their name in the middle. It’s not necessarily to everyone’s taste.

To deactivate this option, simply go to General Settings and uncheck the Sender Image option.

MANAGE YOUR MAILS

PUT YOUR MESSAGES ON HOLD

Sometimes, we can be a little overwhelmed by the accumulation of emails received and certain hellish days do not leave us time to read them all. In order not to miss any of these emails, you can repel some of them so that they reappear later, at a more convenient time. Concretely, if you spot an important message, keep pressing it until the three-dot menu appears at the top right of the screen. Unroll it and press Pending.

A pop-up window opens and allows you to select the period that suits you best before the selected email reappears at the top of the list. You have several options such as End of day, Tomorrow, Next week ... It is also possible to choose the date and time of this ascent.

CANCEL SEND A MAIL

Who has never sent the wrong or incomplete emails to the wrong person? When this happens, you usually have to send a second message to apologize for the inconvenience and digest this little annoying moment of loneliness. Fortunately, on Gmail, it is possible to cancel the mail sent a few seconds after pressing the send button. In fact, a few seconds after this operation, a banner appears at the bottom of the screen with an unavoidable Cancel button.

Take advantage of this short delay to repair your error!

PROGRAM SELF-DESTRUCTION OF EMAILS

As if you were a secret agent, you can schedule the self-destruction of the emails you send. When you're writing a message, tap the three-dot icon in the top right of the screen and choose Confidential mode. This option will take you to an interface prompting you to set an expiration time for your email. Depending on your choice, it will disappear from your recipient's inbox after a day, a week, 3 months and even 5 years!

The person to whom you send this top secret message will also receive a code by email or SMS to access the protected content. The expiration date is displayed at the bottom of the email.

REPLY FASTER

Gmail takes advantage of all of Google’s expertise to automate certain tasks. So in the case of some conversations, it may be convenient to only have to press a button already ready. Gmail offers this option: depending on the context and when it can, the application suggests three suitable responses. You just have to press on the proposal that suits you best, add a few lines of text to your message if necessary, and send it.
