  • La Casa de Papel spoilers ahead.
  • Netflix has confirmed Season 4 of La Casa de Papel will premiere on April 3, 2020.
  • The brand new trailer brings back The Professor's older brother, Berlín, and fans have been warned to prepare for the chaos.

The full trailer for season 4 of Netflix's La Casa de Papel a.k.a Money Heist is finally here, and reader, I gasped.
The trailer opens right where season 3 left off: Nairobi is fighting for her life, Lisbon is in police custody, and The Professor is on the run. But in a plot twist, it looks like the bank's security chief, Gandía, has escaped and disconnected The Professor's cameras. Gandía eventually makes his way back into the bank to sabotage the heist and target the thieves, including throwing a grenade in an elevator with Rio and Denver, as well as capturing Tokio.
But perhaps the most surprising shot of the trailer is of Berlín, who looks very much alive as he is telling a man to "hold on." Could this mean that he survived the shots at the end of season 2? Or is this just another flashback?
The final shot of the trailer is of Palermo and The Professor. "This is more than just a heist," he says. "You know that very well."
The official Instagram for the show teased the trailer on March 4, where it has otherwise been building the (already high) anticipation for the new season. The account was recently "hacked" by Inspector Alicia Sierra (played by Najwa Nimri), who was introduced in season 3 and can be seen offering Lisbon a heartbreaking proposition in the season 4 trailer: sell out The Professor or lose your family. Alicia censored the account — "if you are with [the Professor], you are not with me" — but on March 3, the account was restored with "a message for the resistance." The Professor appeared and called out the police's failed campaign to discredit the group, and he warned fans not to be fooled.
To quote the new trailer, "let the chaos begin."
Season 3 of La Casa de Papel broke records by having the best first-week global result ever for a Netflix non-English series, according to Variety. It is also officially the most-watched Netflix series or film of all time in any language, including English, in countries around the world like France, Italy, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Portugal, and "many others," according to Diego Ávalos, direction of originals in Spain.
According to Netflix, La Casa de Papel was also the streaming service's third most-watched original TV show, right behind Stranger Things and Umbrella Academy. It's been watched by 44 million people, according to The New York Times.
Excited for the epic series to return? Us, too. Here's everything else we know about season 4 so far.

When will season 4 of La Casa de Papel (Money Heist) release?

Season 4 is coming on April 3, 2020.
The release date follows a similar pattern for earlier seasons: After season 1 released on May 9, 2017, season 2 quickly followed on October 16, 2017. Season 3 dropped July 19, 2019, and it'll be less than a year before we have new episodes (at least that's what we're telling ourselves as we anxiously wait for more).
But unlike prior seasons, Netflix will also release a documentary about the series and how it became an international phenomenon, according to Deadline. Few details about the documentary have been released, but according to Spanish film magazine Fotogramas, the documentary will include testimonies from creator Álex Pina, his partners, as well as members of the cast.

Is there a trailer for season 4?

The new trailer follows a short teaser Netflix released after last year's Comic Con in Brazil. The teaser shows members of the cast in their signature red jumpsuits and Salvador Dali masks, including Berlín, who sacrificed himself at the end of season 2. In season 3, Berlín appeared in flashbacks, as he, Palermo, and The Professor made plans to rob The Bank of Spain. (Remember Berlín's girlfriend? Wonder what she's up to.) It seems likely that that's how we'll see him in season 4, but if things are going to get chaotic, who's to say for sure?

    Who is in the cast?

All of the thieves are back in the new trailer: The Professor/Salvador "Salva" Martin (Álvaro Morte), Tokio (Úrsula Corberó), Denver (Jaime Lorente Lopez), Nairobi (Alba Flores), Helsinki (Darko Peric), Raquel/Lisbon (Itziar Ituño), Monica/Stockholm (Esther Acebo), Bogotá (Hovik Keuchkerian), Palermo (Rodrigo de la Serna), and Marsella (Luka Peros). You also see Inspector Alicia and Gandí (José Manuel Poga).

Remind me: what happened in season 3?

The Professor and Raquel/Lisbon teamed up with their original crew to rob the Bank of Spain both in honor of Berlín, who fans learned was actually the Professor's older brother, and to demand authorities release Rio, who was located and captured after using a phone to call Tokio. The thieves not only wanted to get into the vault and melt down the gold that's stored there, but they also wanted to enter the secret compartment where all the Spanish government's secrets are kept.
As soon as Denver walked out of the bank with the red boxes, the negotiators knew they would have to give into the demand of the robbers, which was to give Rio back safely. The heist, however, quickly derails from there. Nairobi was shot in the chest by the police after Alicia tricked her into standing by a window to see her son for the first time since he was taken away from her years ago. (This is what she referred to in her Instagram takeover, how "clever" it was.)
And the ultimate blow? Alicia tricked The Professor into believing that Lisbon was executed by the police, forcing him to break his one rule about not killing anyone. The Professor told Palermo that "this is no longer a heist or about defying the system, it's a war" and to "act accordingly." This leads to Rio and Tokio launching a rocket-propelled grenade at an army tank that was about to enter the bank. It's only after that you see Lisbon is alive and being taken into police custody, presumably where she will face the same torture as Rio. Season 3 ends with Tokio saying, "And that's how the war began."

Okay, so, what will season 4 be about?

Things have taken an unexpected turn for The Professor, Lisbon, and the thieves. Usually when everything goes wrong, The Professor comes through with a backup plan—but this time he his out of options. His love for Lisbon (another one of his rules that he broke) caused him to be led astray, and now all bets are off for season 4.
Not that the thieves will just let him off the hook. In the trailer, Stockholm says, "You said it was impossible to escape but that you'd get us out. Keep your word." Plus, there *are* a few shots in the trailer where you see Marsella on the outside. One fan theory on Reddit suggests that he might actually be the key to their escape:
"If we look closely [at] the trailer, we can see Marseille [sic] many times and since we've known he is an ex military guy, he might be able to pilot a chopper. We see him in a van, in a pool and in the middle of the crowd. So what if he were to light a spark outside the bank to increase security and the army ... to sneak his way among other choppers and get them out from the roof. We have a clip of them shooting on the roof, too."
Overall, we expect that viewers will see just how far The Professor is willing to go to rescue his team, including Lisbon. (And, based on Alicia's takeover, how far authorities are willing to go to stop the resistance.)

Will a character die in season 4?

The new trailer shows some of our favorite thieves in danger: Rio and Denver are in that elevator. Maybe Bogota, too. Tokio is tied up and crying. Helsinki is crying at one point, and then later it looks like he's going to be hanged. And then, of course, there's still the question of Nairobi: will she or won't she survive? Fans on Reddit have theories that we could be getting ready to say goodbye to another character, but they're not convinced the trailer would give away who that person is. For a show that's known for its many layered twists and turns, we'll just have to wait and see.

Is season 4 the last season of La Casa de Papel?

A few members of the cast have recently posted photos on Instagram after filming wrapped for season 4. From their captions, it seems they are hinting that season 4 will be the final season of La Casa de Papel.
Acebo wrote, "And after the chaos...silence. It's official. I've finished filming @lacasadepapel #lcdp...Thank you to the entire family for this incredible
